Planet Earth is facing a climate emergency.

The 2018 Report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) entitled Global Warming of 1.5 C

explores the potential impact of a 1.5 C warming of the Earth which experts fear will happen soon, or most

certainly by the year 2050.https://www.soa.org/

Record breaking storms, fires, droughts, coral bleaching, heat waves and floods were predicted https://www.ipcc.ch/sr15/

Sadly, now in 2021 we’re seeing some of these disasters come to fruition.

Indeed, climate change is “more severe than anticipated,

threatening natural ecosystems and the fate of

humanity.[2]

“Eating mostly plant-based foods while reducing the global consumption of animal products,

especially ruminant livestock, can improve human health and significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions.”[3]

The production of animal products is highly inefficient.

By using cropland to produce human plant food rather than livestock foods,

Yet it was just reported in July 2021 that “for the first time,

world ruminant livestock numbers soared past 4 billion,

which represents much more mass than all humans and wild

Didem Varol is a Registered Dietitian and, as such, is registered with the College of Dietitians of Ontario. She is a graduate from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She currently lives in Istanbul and runs her own private practice, Plantgevity Nutrition Solutions. Prior to that, she spent almost 10 years working at Toronto Public Health, as a Public Health Dietitian in the field of chronic disease prevention.
